Nagarkot Hiking

We start our hike, crossing through the terraced fields, dense Tamang traditional village, with typical country side houses painted with locally found Ocher. Nagarkot is situated at 2195 m / 7200ft is a quiet and scenic hilltop about 32 km from Kathmandu, very popular as a Mountain View point. One can see the panorama of the Himalayas ranging from the Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchanjunga in the east including Mt Everest (you will see Mt Everest only as a dot on the horizon but with a binocular you can have a good view of it).

The Sankhu to Nagarkot hiking starts at the Newar village of Sankhu after drive of about 1-1.5 hrs from Kathmandu. Small and pleasant village of Sankhu is a major pilgrimage site with the temple of Bajrajogini. Now you hike from Sankhu to Nagarkot and it takes about three and half hours. It a bit difficult climbing the hills but one can do it. You can spend your time amidst the natural surroundings of Nagarkot during hiking.

Day 1: Sankhu- Nagarkot ( 3/4 hour hiking)
After having breakfast, drive for about 1-1.5 hrs to Sankhu. Sankhu is medieval Newar village which is major pilgrimage center for Hindus. The temple of Vajrajogini is situated here where a big mela is organized for one month. From here we hike to Nagarkot for the night stay. You pass the uphill trail through scattered villages, forests and farmlands and reach Nagarkot. The sunrise and sunset on the Himalayas seen from Nagarkot hill could be a life time memory for you.

Day 02: Nagarkot to Changu Narayan and drive back to Kathmandu Waking up in the early morning hours in order to watch the spectacular sunrise over the Himalayan range. The first rays of the sun firing the peaks glowing a multitude of pink, gold and red hues as it slowly lights up the Himalayas becomes extremely beautiful gracing. After breakfast, we will pack up and proceed to will visit the ChanguNarayan Temple-dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It was built in the 4th century and has a stone inscription which is the first recorded history of Nepal. Then drive back to Kathmandu.
