The Chitwan Valley is an Inner Terai valley in the south of Nepal, encompassing the districts of Makwanpur, Chitwan and Nawalparasi. The valley is part of the Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands ecoregion of about 150 km (93 mi) length and 3048 km (1930 mi) width. The Chitwan Valley is drained by the East Rapti River, which flows from the eastern Mahabharat Range into the valley near Hetauda, where it turns west and flows along the axis of the valley. About 20 km west of Hetauda the Rapti meets the eastern border of Chitwan National Park. For the next 70 km it forms a natural boundary between human settlements on its right-hand side and protected area on its left-hand side.
Chitwan National Park:
Chitwan National park having land of 932kmsq is a subtropical lowlands located in the south central Nepal,165 km awayfrom kathmandu. It is famous for the jungle safaries since 1984 when it was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status.The Park has 70 % Sal forest ,20% Grasslands & 10 % bushes. There are about 50 different types of grasses including Elephant grass ( Saccharum spp) could grow upto 9m in height. As regards to wildlives & birds in the park concerns, there are 68 species of Mammals, 544 species of Birds, 56 species of herpeto fauna & 126 species of fish. The park is renowned for one horned Rhinocerous, Royal Bengal Tiger & Gharial Corcodiles. Other wildlives found in the park are Wild elephant, Fourhorned antelope, Pangolin, Golden monitor lizard, Python, Bengal florican, Lesser florican, Giant hornbill, Black stork, While stork, etc. The activities that are carried out in the packages are ELEPHANT BACK SAFARI, DUG OUT CANOING, ELEPHANT BATHING, ELEPHANT BREEDING CENTER VISIT, NATURE WALKS, JEEP SAFARIES, THARU CULTURE SHOW, BIRDWATCHING, TIGER SIGHT HUNTING depending upon the duration of the stays in the Park. An Elephant ride is the most popular way of exploring the Chitwan jungle. The elephant takes you around the jungle for an hour and half. There are two trips a day, one in the morning at eight and another at four in the afternoon. During peak seasons, there are long lines for tickets. Some of the luxury lodges inside the park itself, have elephants too. The privately owned elephant rides take you around the outside of the park, where the chances of game spotting are far less.
going by jeep in the jungle will allow you to get deep inside the park. But keep in mind that the noise of the motors usually scares away the animals, reducing your chances of spotting wildlife.
Crocodile breading centre:
any jungle activity inside the park can include a visit to the crocodile breading centre where is possible to come in close contact with the two type of crocodiles that lives in the area, the mugger and the endanger gharial or fish eater.
Swimming in the Rapti river:
any jungle program can end with a swim in the Rapti river, after the guides had checked that there are no crocodiles in the area. In some places is necessary to cross by canoe.
Motorcycle Safari :
Explore the Jungle and traditional Tharu villages on a classic motorcycle. Hearts and Tears Motorcycle Club organize everything out of Pokhara, and bring a local nature guide along for the ride. Just amazing.
Jungle / Nature Walk:
Take an exciting and invigorating walk through the lush sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan. Our trained naturalists take you to prime spots to view deer, rhinos, sloth bears and other wildlife. They will also give you interesting information about the various plants and animals of the jungle throughout your walk.
Bird Watching Tour:
Chitwan is the best destination for bird watching. The birds found here are Cormorants, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Blue Indian Roller, Hornbills, Stor k billed Kingfishers, Grey headed Eagles, Ruby Cheeked Sunbird, Bengal Florican, Largetailed Night jar, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Beaters & Lesser Florican etc. More than 500 species have been recorded only in Chitwan.
Boating / Canoeing Trip:
Canoe Ride an active package programme. This include in every pacakages. Canoe ride along the Rapti river will be an excellent opportunity for Bird Watching and for seeing the 2 rare species of crocodiles; the Marsh Mugger and the fish eating Gharial.
Tharu Village Tour:
Tradition has it that the Tharus of Nepal came all the way from Rajasthan, driven off by fear as the Moghuls invaded India. These colourful, fun loving, extremely hospitable people offer a peek into their lives at the Bhada Homestay Village, where one can tour the village on bullock carts, and eat local delicacies while enjoying a cultural show.
Tharu Cultural Show:
In chitwan there is Tharu social groups, which they show their unique performance. In the evening before dinner tharu cultural dance performances used to held. Along this performance you willl be holding drinks and roasted meats to make you more entertainer.
