Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve
Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve, is a protected area covering with an area of 175 square kilometers, is situated in the embankments of the Sapta Koshi River system. This reserve is unique for its 100 or so surviving wild water buffaloes. Other mammals are the Hog Deer, Wild Boar, Spotted and the Nilgai. The species of Birds total 485 here and includes 20 of ducks, many storks, egrets, herons and the endangered swamp partridges and Bengal floricans, 200 species of fish& 31 species of mammals. Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve is coverage of grasslands is 68%, compared to only about 6% of forest, which is predominated by Indian rosewood. The reason is resting place for migrating Birds not seen anywhere in Nepal. Endangered Gharial Crocodiles and Gangetic dolphins have also been sighted in the Koshi River. During the Koshi Tappu Safari at dusk and dawn time you will see many varieties of birds and animals sitting along the river. The best place to watch the bird species is the Barrage, downstream of the river.
