Dakshinkali
Dakshinkali is one of the popular places to visit around Kathmandu Nepal. Although Dakshinkali lies in the Kathmandu valley, it is far from the center location of Kathmandu city. It is located 22 kilometers outside Kathmandu and about 1 kilometer outside the village of Pharping, is one of the main temples of Nepal dedicated to the goddess Kali The Black One. Kali is just another form of great goddess Durga. Kali is believed to be extremely powerful and accomplished.
Dakshin is known as south and Kali is derived from Hindu goddess Kali which is mention above so that it basically means the goddess Kali of the south. Entire route to the temple is a beautiful countryside drive. Temple is located down the flight of steps open to the sky and is decorated with the canopy of gilded snakes. Regular religious worship is performed daily. A large number of animals are sacrificed on twice a week, on every Tuesday and Saturday. This is the family deity of Shah Dynasty (Kings who rule Nepal more than 300 years (1700-2006 AD).
It is widely venerated Kali by the general public. There is a saying if you have special vow to be fulfilled, you should offer animal blood to Kali, and she would fulfill the vows. There are five different animals that are sacrificed here namely; roaster, Duck, Buffalo, Pig & goat. More incredible animal rituals are held during Dashain festival. The road to DakshinKali is in a good condition but it is uphill all the way. If you plan to go on the Mountain Bike, it is really an interesting place to go and coming back fast is the fun park. On the return journey, one can visit the temple of Shesh Narayan, a cave temple where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have gained his physical power through meditation. This temple could be combined with the Kirtipur village tour.
