Overview

Druk Path Trekking 1 is the most popular trek in the country as it passes through a gorgeous natural landscape of blue pine forests, high ridges and pristine lakes at altitudes ranging between 2400-4200 m while at the same time offering the opportunity to visit some ancient Lhakhangs, dzongs, Taktsang Monastery and villages.

Apart from Paro: which is believed to be one of the first valleys to have received the imprint of Buddhism and Thimpu valleys, you will visit Punakha and Wangdi phodrang. Punakha is the old capital of Bhutan and has temperate climate almost all year round. You will visit the Punakha Dzong-the winter home of a monastic community. Wangdi phodrang is a large village before central Bhutan starts. This valley provides rich pasture fields for cattle and is also famous for bamboo work and slate and stone carvings. Also included is the chance to hike to the gravity-defying Taktsang Tiger Nest Monastery in the Paro Valley. This spot offers a magnificent vista of Mount Chomolhari, Mountain Goddess (7329 m).

It is one of the finest short treks in Bhutan which leads through an ancient trading route, over high mountain passes that connects the valleys of Paro and Thimpu. Visit Tashichho Dzong the main secretariat building. It is from here that the King and other prominent civil servants run the country. The interesting features of this trek are the presence of beautiful lakes en route teeming with fish. In the route visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of the third King who reigned from 1952-1972. Druk Path trek also offers stunning views of Mt. Gangkar Puensum, one of the highest unscaled peak in the world. This trek offers beautiful views as you cross the chain of mountains that separate the Paro and Thimphu valleys. The best season for this trek is March-May and September November.
