It is widely venerated place where every pilgrim would have the vow to be fulfilled, they sacrifice anyone type of the 5 different animals; Roaster, Pig, Buffalo, Goat & Duck. Another most incredible traditional villages of Kathmandu Valley is Bungmati and Khokana. The village is only about 10 kilometers south of downtown Kathmandu so it is not far away at all. Khokana and Bungamati are the ancient Newari village (of the 16th century) alike Kirtipur but a visit to Khokana and Bungamati is a bit different to the visit to Kirtipur.

There are suspicions that Bungamati existed as early as the 7th century under the name Bugayumi. However, its official founding date falls somewhere in the 16th century. Bungamati special fact is that it is a traditional Newari village a place where not much has changed over the last couple of centuries. As you walk the streets, you will find hundreds of masterful wood carvers and sculptors offering you excellently hand-crafted items at bargain prices.

Most of them work from home and they may even offer you other articles for sale on the side. Khokana is just in 20-30 minutes walking distance from Bungamati another Newar village. The village begins with a narrow cobbled street and in the middle of the main street lies the temple of Shekalim Mai a local mother Goddess. Khokana is the famous village where there is a traditional mile to crush the mustard producing cooking oil. It is really exciting to explore the culture tour in Kathmandu.
