It was a historical city founded probably in the 3rd century BS. The ancient city is located on the southern bank of the holy Bagmati River and is approximately five kilometers south-east of the capital.

It is famous for the Durbar Square including the famous old and other beautiful architectural structures such as Tusha Hiti and The stone temple of Lord Krishna with its intricate stone and bronze carvings are two other masterpieces in the same vicinity.
